I’ve been raving to all my friends recently about how much I love the holistic health benefits of infrared saunas, so I decided to put together an infrared sauna reviews site to help guide anyone shopping for one in the right direction.

Here are a few things you need to know before you buy an infrared sauna, as well as my recommendation for where you can get a great one for your family or business.

First off, why choose an infrared sauna over a traditional sauna? Well, it’s simple, really. Traditional saunas are good for you for a certain amount of time (most doctors say 20 minutes in a traditional sauna is the most a person should do). Infrared saunas operate at between 60° and 150°F, compared to traditional saunas which operate at 300° and 1000°F. Thus, infrared saunas alllow longer therapy sessions, and thus increased benefits. They also work by heating your body tissue deeper than taditional saunas, allowing your body to sweat out more toxins at a more comfortable level of heat.

Here are 3 more things to keep in mind while browsing infrared sauna reviews:

1) Sauna Size

One of the fantastic benefits of infrared saunas is that they don’t have to take up nearly as much space as conventional steam saunas, because the heating mechanisms reside in the walls of the sauna. When shopping online for your sauna, be sure to take measurements of the space you have in your house, business, or even backyard, just to make sure your infrared sauna will fit. The most common sizes you’ll find available will fit between 1-5 people. So keep in mind the location you want to place your sauna, and how you’re likely to use it before you take the leap.

2) Portable vs. Stationary

Portable infrared saunas are incredible if you want the health benefits on the road, or you don’t exactly have room in your home for a big one, but to me, one of the best parts about infrared saunas is the social aspect. However, if you’re likely to want to move it around, maybe a portable infrared sauna is the right choice for you.

3) Ceramic vs. Carbon Infrared Saunas

There seems to be a perpetual question among sauna enthusiast as to whether carbon based or ceramic based infrared saunas are best. The general consensus is that carbon based tiles are superior to ceramic rods, because they can heat a larger surface area of your body, which allows you to benefit more from your infrared sauna experience.

Now, on to my recommendation. As my friends all know, I really like the saunas from East Coast Saunas.
